Sumatra's Secret Paradise | 7 Days 6 Nights

A seven-day journey through North Sumatra that brings together the three faces of the region: the rainforest of Gunung Leuser, the volcanic highlands around Berastagi, and the old Batak culture of Lake Toba. The trip opens in Bukit Lawang with a two-day, one-night trek into Gunung Leuser National Park. Sumatran orangutans, macaques and tropical birds on the trail, a night at a riverside camp inside the forest with dinner cooked over an open fire, and a rafting descent down the Bohorok to close it. From there the route climbs to Berastagi for a pre-dawn hike up Mount Sibayak, an active volcano at 2,212 m, followed by the natural hot springs and the drop of Sipiso-Piso Waterfall. The last stretch crosses Lake Toba by ferry to Samosir Island for a full day with Batak villages, stone chairs, weaving and lake views.
