Into the Wild: Gunung Leuser Orangutan Trekking | 2D1N

A two-day, one-night jungle trek into Gunung Leuser National Park, departing from Bukit Lawang in North Sumatra. The first day follows the trail deep into the rainforest with extended time for wildlife encounters: Sumatran orangutans, gibbons, macaques, Thomas's langurs and hornbills, among ancient trees and flora that has stood unchanged for thousands of years. The day ends at a riverside camp set well inside the forest. Night in the rainforest is an experience of its own. The camp sits in near-total darkness, with the calls of nocturnal creatures and fireflies in the trees around it. Dinner is prepared over an open fire by the jungle cook, and the night is spent at camp. The second morning continues the exploration, and the trip closes with a rafting and tubing descent down the Bohorok River back to the village. The trek starts and ends in Bukit Lawang, with a certified English-speaking local guide throughout. The route is moderate to challenging, so a reasonable level of fitness is recommended.
